Once a year, Berlin’s world-famous sights and monuments in the city centre become the canvas for spectacular light and video projections at the Festival of Lights. One of the most well known Light Art Festivals in the World!

October 11th – 20th, 2019. For ten days, the Festival of Lights transforms Berlin’s most famous landmarks and historical monuments such as Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral and the Funkturm through light projections and video art.

Many local and international lighting artists use this unique opportunity to project their temporary works of art onto some of the most recognisable buildings in the world, leaving a lasting impression on the spectators. They tell stories, draw attention to the special and present their cultures, arts, crafts and messages. Berlin landmarks, historical places, streets, squares, trendy neighbourhoods and hotspots of recent history are staged with light.

The festival of light has taken place in Berlin every autumn since 2013, growing bigger and more popular each year. While the event was originally concentrated on the city centre, there are now illuminations in other parts of town as well. The fundamental idea of the event is to connect different cultures, religions and nations with the help of light installations. The intention is to underline the multicultural nature of the capital city and set an example for artistic freedom.
